Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 2026: Celebrating our Nurses

Posting date: 16/07/26

Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month (VNAM) has come and gone for 2026.

The importance of recognition is paramount when it comes to the work our teams do in looking after clients and their animals. Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month is just one way we can show our appreciation and recognition to the industry professionals who deserve it.

But while the official month of celebration may have drawn to a close, our appreciation for our nursing teams never stops.

Before we dive in, make sure to read more about life at Medivet:

What is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month?

Every year, May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month (VNAM). The theme this year was something that underpins everything we do at Medivet: Compassion and Empathy. VNAM has now run for over 20 years and counting.

VNAM 2026 had a mission:

  • Promote the importance of Veterinary Nurse roles in protecting animal welfare
  • Educate people on the level of training it takes to become a Veterinary Nurse
  • Make a case for protecting the Veterinary Nurse title in law

Giving thanks to each other

One of the greatest aspects of VNAM 2026 was seeing our teams celebrate one another.

Throughout the month, our clinics and teams across the country found creative ways to say "thank you” when we asked them about their nursing colleagues:

About her colleague, Head Veterinary Nurse Kathryn, Hannah said:

“On multiple occasions when we have been completely inundated with patients, Kathryn manages to stay upbeat and work incredibly efficiently and without complaint to ensure the patients get the care they need. She does all this whilst always putting her colleagues' needs before her own, forgoing her lunch break if necessary to ensure her colleagues get their breaks.”

Caron gave praise and thanks to her Senior Veterinary Nursing colleague, Vikki:

“Every day is an example to each and every person or pet. She brings a smile and calm, outstanding nursing care to every moment, be it a routine or an emergency, making others around her feel safe and confident.”

Ruby was thankful for Nursing colleague Jennifer’s empathy:

“My own pet received some bad news regarding a tumour that was found in his body, and throughout she showed great care and empathy towards me in and out of work. She was there for me in every moment during surgery and the moments after.”

What our clients say about our Veterinary Nurses

While internal recognition is vital, hearing the impact our nurses have on the people and pets who walk through our doors also warms our hearts. For our clients, Veterinary Nurses are often a beacon of comfort during incredibly stressful times.

Here’s what some of our clients have said about our nurses:

“I cannot thank the nurses here enough, and reception for their kindness, compassion, professionalism, and humanity during the last weeks of our car’s life. You are amazing, and we will forever be grateful to you!” - Medivet 24-hour, Richmond

“Medivet is our ‘go-to’ veterinarian service. Lukasz and Gemma, the Nurse, are our ‘go-to’ pet professionals. They’re both friendly, compassionate, very professional, and provide expert care and advice. They genuinely love animals.” - Medivet, Brigg

“My dog has received excellent care and treatment. I was so anxious leaving her, but every Vet and Nurse we spoke to was lovely and reassuring, and I believe she was in the best hands possible for her surgery.” - Medivet, Derby

Join a team where you’re always valued

Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month may only happen once a year, but at Medivet, our commitment to celebrating, supporting, and elevating our nursing teams is a year-round priority. The stories from our colleagues and the glowing words from our clients are a powerful reminder of why our nurses are true heroes in our clinics.

If you’re a passionate Registered Veterinary Nurse looking for a supportive environment where your dedication is genuinely recognised, your skills are championed, and your well-being matters, we would love to welcome you to the family.
