Programme Structure

Your journey begins with a structured two-year programme, designed to build your confidence from day one. 

During your first year, you'll focus on

  • The essential skills every new graduate needs to feel supported and capable in practice 
  • Growing your confidence through real-life case exposure and hands-on learning
  • Understanding and managing the most common conditions seen in first-opinions practices 

Year Two Development Pathway 

Your second year is all about expanding your skills and preparing you for the next steps in your career. You'll explore:

  • Leadership skills and effective team communication 
  • Business acumen and commercial awareness to really understand how practices thrive 
  • A clear and accessible pathway towards future clinic ownership 


Support & Learning Resources

Throughout the programme, you'll have the right support around you to grow, learn and thrive.

  • A dedicated VetGDP Advisor in every branch, there to guide you through your VetGDP and champion your development 
  • Access to the Medivet Learning Module Pathway, providing structured learning that matches your pace and progression
  • The Central CPD Graduate Academy, our online self-study platform designed to reinforce your learning and strengthen your day one competencies

Career progression

After successfully completing the Graduate Vet Programme, you'll be actively encouraged to develop your skills and further your career. 

As a Veterinary Surgeon with Medivet, you’ll receive a CPD (Continuing Professional Development) package of £1,500 plus three days, which you can put towards external training in a wide range of areas. Certificate sponsorship is also available, allowing you to pursue any area of veterinary care and further your expertise.

We understand that life as a vet can be challenging, so we also offer internal courses to develop your soft skills, including stress management and handling difficult conversations with clients, ensuring you have all the tools you need to succeed.

There are several rewarding career paths available for our Veterinary Surgeons, whether you're looking to become a Mobile Veterinary Surgeon, a Night Veterinary Surgeon or progress into slightly different roles, which could include Lead Veterinary Surgeon, a Branch Partner or even Regional Operations Director! There's plenty of paths you could take with your career. 

Lead Veterinary Surgeon 

As a Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you'll shape clinical standards and inspire your team, ensuring high standards of care while mentoring fellow vets and shaping day-to-day clinical excellence. 

Branch Partner

We make practice ownership achievable and rewarding—supporting you every step of the way. With Medivet’s support, you’ll focus on patient care while we handle the business side—making practice ownership achievable, rewarding, and truly yours.

Regional Operations Director

You'll lead regional success through strategic planning, supporting Practice Managers, and delivering continuous improvement. You’ll take ownership of commercial results, cost management, and local clinic strategy.
