The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Veterinary Surgeon to join our long-standing hospital team at Medivet Richmond 24hour. This opportunity offers a fast-paced environment with a varied caseload.
We are searching for a dedicated team player eager to enhance their career. We would particularly welcome someone who shares a passion for medicine and ultrasonography although not essential.3 or more years experience within the UK is essential.
Being a 24-hour hospital, we encounter a diverse range of cases, spanning from routine consultation, surgeries and dental treatments to complex medical and surgical workups. With our in-house capabilities including full lab, x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy and CT, we handle diagnostics efficiently using modern equipment.
Furthermore, we have several advanced procedures proficient in laparoscopic surgeries, soft tissue surgeries (thyroidectomy, anal gland removal, BOAS and entropion) and orthopaedic surgeries (TPLO, fracture repairs, patella luxation and FHNE). This enables our vets comprehensively manage their cases in house.
We are an RCVS practice standards accredited small animal hospital, with emergency and critical care accreditation.
You’ll be joining an established friendly team with many of the team working for over 10 years at the hospital. The team currently consists of 7 day vets, 3 night vets, 6 day RVNs, 2 night RVNs, 4 SVNs, 3 PCAs and 5 CCAs.
We’re also a registered nurse training practice and graduate vet residency provider.
The practice is situated in South West London, close to beautiful Kew Gardens and Richmond Park. Easy access to central London. There is free parking a short walk away and good road links with M3 and M4 close by. Mainline rail services, London Overground and underground within walking distance. On busy bus routes.
This is a part time role covering weekends only, if more hours are desired, this may be arranged either within Richmond or surrounding practices!

Responsibilities
Client care:
Deliver exceptional care to clients, each and every day.
Deal with any client complaints and concerns raised in the clinic.
Ensure the client receives updates regarding patient care following any procedure.
For any out of hours (OOH) or enhanced care, ensure the client is updated regarding patient care and wellbeing.
Patient care:
Carry out any consultations and procedures.
Accountable for patient care and monitoring.
Responsible for admissions and discharges for procedures (depending on complexity)
Ensure patient records are accurate and up to date.
Complete a clinical handover and make arrangements for the transfer of any patient requiring OOH or enhanced care.
Responsible for prescribing medication and carrying out dispensing checks.
All patient care is carried out under the guidance of the vet/lead vet in line with clinical competence.
Standards and Compliance:
Accountable for compliance with all regulatory and practice standards and agreed ways of working.
Ensure the appropriate regulatory, practice and operational veterinary and nursing standards are implemented in the practice.
Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
Commercial performance:
Prepare accurate estimates and costs for clients and ensure payment is made at the same time as the procedure.
Take action to minimise debt and support action plans to address any issues with clients.
Maximise capacity through the most effective utilisation of clinical skills.
Communications:
Hold engaging clinical meetings with veterinary and nursing teams as required.
Clinical leadership:
Support and carry out colleague clinical mentoring/ development as required.
Pro-actively support and share clinical best practice within and across clinics and the wider Medivet community.
To continue to deliver exceptional care to clients the Vet and Lead Vet are responsible for mentoring graduates within the clinic. The Nurse and Head Nurse are responsible for coaching the nursing team.
Clinical administration:
Accountable for ensuring lab tests are carried out correctly.
Escalate any issues to the Practice Manager as required.
Skills, knowledge and experience
Must be an RCVS registered vet surgeon.
Able to demonstrate clinical leadership skills.
Implementation of a progressive clinical culture.
Able to work as part of a team.
Experienced in delivering exceptional clinical care to clients and patients.
Supports nurse consults and understands how this contributes to the performance and efficient operation of the clinic.
Experienced in using coaching and influencing skills to get the best out of each and every colleague.
Our clinics are run by small teams who need to work together effectively to deliver exceptional care to our clients, patients, and colleagues. This means that, from time to time, you may be required to carry out tasks outside your normal duties, where you have the skills, knowledge and experience required.
