Dorchester, Dorset

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a surgical bias to join our friendly and experienced team at Medivet Dorchester 24 Hour, a recently refurbished, multi-disciplinary hospital located just a short drive from the stunning Jurassic Coast.

Dorchester 24 Hour has a strong regional presence, providing out-of-hours care for five Medivet branches and seven non-Medivet practices which gives scope for a wide range of clinical cases. You will be working within a highly skilled and supportive team, which includes certificate holders in cardiology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, dermatology, and emergency and critical care, as well as those who are currently studying towards dental qualifications. This creates an excellent environment for professional development, collaboration, and learning, and providing all round care for our patients, from first opinion work to more advanced and challenging cases.

Our hospital is fully equipped to deliver exceptional patient care, with facilities including:

  • CT scanner (supporting internal and outpatient referrals)

  • Laparscopic surgery

  • Digital x-ray and ultrasound

  • Dental X-ray

  • Endoscopy

  • Two sterile surgical suites

  • Dedicated in-house laboratory

  • Hydrotherapy unit (staffed two days per week)

  • Peripatetic physiotherapist

  • Isolation facilities

  • Separate dog and cat wards, with ISFM Silver Cat Friendly status

  • 24/7 care supported by an ECC-certified night vet and experienced nursing team

This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinary surgeon with a strong surgical interest, preferably a certificate holder, to help develop a caseload in both orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery. Although this role has a surgical bias we remain committed to providing excellent first opinion client care and therefore the role will also involve routine consultations and inpatient care

We are looking for a minimum of 4 years proven UK experience to thrive in this busy, forward-thinking hospital environment while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of the Dorset coast. As primarily a first opinion practice the successful candidate must also be keen to provide excellent client care both in the consult room and in managing medical and surgical cases, but with a strong team to lean on can feel supported with more complex and challenging cases.

This role is full-time, working an average of 39 hours per week with 1 in 6 weekends included within this rota. We believe in fairness across the team, so weekends are a core feature of this role, but would consider a part-time role for the right candidate.

Salary starts from £60k commensurate with experience and further qualifications.

If you are passionate about high-quality veterinary care and want to be part of a dynamic, high-performing team, we would be delighted to hear from you.
