Veterinary Care Assistant National Living Wage Oldham, Greater Manchester Medivet Uppermill Part Time, Fixed Term Contract

The Opportunity

Uppermill Medivet have been serving the surrounding areas since 2000, formerly on Stamford Street in Mossley.  The clinic is equipped with in house blood machine for working up medical cases. Clients are used to going to the Mossley 24 hour site for anything surgical and the hospital can be used as an extension of the practice.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and friendly person with a strong passion for animal care and welfare. The ideal candidate should enjoy working as part of a very busy team but also possess the confidence to work alone from time to time. This position will be for 6 hours per week – Tuesday and Wednesday 4.30pm to 7.30pm with 1 in 6 full weekends required at the nearby Ashton practice. 

Previous work experience within a veterinary practice is desirable (voluntary or paid), along with a willingness to learn. Having work experience with animals or in a healthcare setting would also be beneficial. 

Applicants must have prior experience in a secretarial, receptionist or administration style role as this VCA role will also heavily incorporate elements of CCA work. 

A client-orientated approach and excellent communication skills is a must, alongside the ability to work to a high standard. Our Uppermill clinic is a consult only practice with close links to our Mossley 24 hour hospital for surgical cases.

As a Veterinary Care Assistant, you will be an integral part of the practice team.

Working with our Veterinary Surgeons, qualified Nurses, and Student nurses to provide exceptional care to our patients.

 

  • Provide a gold standard service to our patients and clients
  • Following cleaning protocols to maintain cleanliness of the clinical environment
  • Preparing and maintaining medical equipment
  • Administration and reception duties.

Role Accountabilities

In this role you will:

  • Consistently deliver exceptional care to clients.
  • Support with operations and procedures.
  • Deliver patient monitoring and care, including everyday care: walking, toileting and feeding.
  • Ensure the completion of all pre and post operation activity.
  • Complete patient transfers to out of hours or enhanced care.
  • Dispense any medication required under the guidance of the Veterinary team.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, practice and operational standards.

  • Client care skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
