The Opportunity

Medivet have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Care Assistant to join the team on a full time, 40-hour per week basis with the position split over 3 practices in rural Yorkshire, Swanland, Brough and Beverley.

 The Swanland 24-Hour team currently consists of a passionate clinical director, a head nurse, a team of vets and RVNs, student nurses, patient care assistants, client care assistants and administrative staff. We also have a fully functioning and dedicated night team staffed by experienced vets & RVNs to cover out of hours. Medivet Swanland 24-Hour is situated in an affluent part of East Yorkshire within beautiful countryside, with easy access to the North York Moors national park, East Yorkshire coastline & the cities of Kingston-Upon-Hull, Beverley, Lincoln, Leeds & York. The beautiful setting is echoed within the practice grounds themselves where you would be able to enjoy breaks & lunches surrounded by curated hanging baskets of flowers and countryside views.

 The Beverley Medivet branch has a modern and up-to-date operating theatre, with adjacent cat and dog wards, allowing routine surgery and treatments to be performed on site. The small and friendly team, ran by 1 vet and 1 nurse offers exceptional care and services to clients in the Beverley, Driffield and surrounding Wolds area.

 

Finally, our friendly Brough practice, a newly refurbished practice who have just reopened their doors this month (who also offer home visits by prior arrangement) and a 24 hour, 7 days-a-week emergency service based at Swanbridge, covered by our own Veterinary Surgeons and nurses. 

The right candidate will be working with our Veterinary Surgeons, qualified Nurses, and Student nurses to provide exceptional care to our patients. 

In this varied and rewarding role, as a Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) you will provide essential support to the day-to-day running of the practice, learning the core principals of veterinary caring.

 You will share our values being trustworthy, caring and progressive, you’ll also take the initiative in providing high standards of care, ensuring we live true to our purpose of providing exceptional care, that’s always there.

 As a Veterinary Care Assistant, you will be an integral part of the practice team and will perform a variety of duties, such as:

• Providing a gold standard service to our patients and clients
• Following cleaning protocols to maintain cleanliness of the clinical environment
• Preparing and maintaining medical equipment

 This role will be National Living Wage if you’re aged 21 or over. National Minimum Wage if you’re aged under 21.

 The shift pattern for this role will vary between the 3 practices across 5 days per week with shifts a mixture of early and lates (between 7am and 7pm) and half a day is required to be worked 1 in 3 Saturdays. A full driving license is therefore essential for this role together with a can-do attitude and ideally, prior experience/qualifications working both with animals and potentially within a healthcare secretarial or administration setting as the role will encompass a lot of support across the practices, who cover a large area.  Ideally candidates should have a degree of independence with ability to work on initiative and handle a high pressure role.

In this role you will:

  • Consistently deliver exceptional care to clients.
  • Support with operations and procedures.
  • Deliver patient monitoring and care, including everyday care: walking, toileting and feeding.
  • Ensure the completion of all pre and post operation activity.
  • Complete patient transfers to out of hours or enhanced care.
  • Dispense any medication required under the guidance of the Veterinary team.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, practice and operational standards.
