Veterinary Care Assistant

The Opportunity

Our Veterinary Care Assistants, known as Patient Care Assistants are an integral part of the team in practice. You will be performing a variety of duties, such as ensuring the practice maintains high clinical standards throughout, maintaining kennels and the general environment following cleaning protocols, feeding animals, animal handling and behaviour, reporting back to and assisting nurses with patient care and preparing medical equipment, supporting the CCA team with clients queries and completing the client visit.

We are seeking a full time Veterinary Care Assistant to join our Peterborough Bretton practice for 40 hours a week with 1 in 3 weekends required.

This role will be supporting a team of Veterinary Surgeons, Nurses, and Patient Care Assistants. 

We believe in exceptional care for both our patients and client. As a Client Care Assistant, you’ll use your excellent customer service skills to welcome and assist clients before, during and after every visit. Although you don’t need to have hands-on experience working with pets, a love of animals and their welfare is essential. 

From handling busy telephone lines and arranging appointments to taking payments, entering test results, and ensuring the consult rooms are fully stocked, you’ll enjoy a busy and varied front-of-house role. You’ll also take ownership of ensuring the reception and waiting areas always look their best. 

For this particular role plenty of experience within customer service, particularly healthcare will be hugely advantageous. Prior experience working with animals also desirable. 

 This role will be National Living Wage if you’re aged 21 or over. National Minimum Wage if you’re aged under 21.

Role Accountabilities

In this role you will:

• Consistently deliver exceptional care to clients.
• Support with operations and procedures.
• Deliver patient monitoring and care, including everyday care: walking, toileting and feeding.
• Ensure the completion of all pre and post operation activity.
• Complete patient transfers to out of hours or enhanced care.
• Dispense any medication required under the guidance of the Veterinary team.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory, practice and operational standards.

• Experience of working as part of a team and building positive working relationships with colleagues.
• Able to provide exceptional care to clients and patients.
• Client care skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Able to prioritise a range of tasks and own workload.
• Flexible and willing to learn.
• An understanding of the purpose and importance of regulation and compliance.
