The Opportunity

Medivet Wem has an exciting new opportunity for a Veterinary Care Assistant to join the team on a part time basis for 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Wem lies in the heart of North Shropshire and is an ancient town dating back to Saxon times. It has been a market town since 1202, nestled 9 miles north of Shrewsbury and 9 miles south of Whitchurch. The name is derived from the Old English term wamm, meaning ‘marsh”. 

Medivet Wem’s aim is to deliver the most accessible, comprehensive and high-quality veterinary care possible, treating every patient as a member of the family, providing a wide range of services and treatment options. As a Veterinary Care Assistant, you will be an integral part of the practice team.

Working with our Veterinary Surgeons, qualified Nurses, and Student nurses to provide exceptional care to our patients.

• Provide a gold standard service to our patients and clients
• Following cleaning protocols to maintain cleanliness of the clinical environment
• Preparing and maintaining medical equipment

This role will be National Living Wage if you’re aged 21 or over. National Minimum Wage if you’re aged under 21.

 This role will also involve 1 in 6 full weekends to be worked at the nearby Hospital

The hours and days are to be determined but the ideal candidate will need to be available for work Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. 

An idea of the shift pattern that may be required: Tuesday 9am-3pm or 10-4pm, Thursday 9-3pm or 10-4pm and Friday 8.30-5pm.

Role Accountabilities

Exceptional care is at the heart of everything we do at Medivet. That’s the care for our patients, our clients and for each other – we really want to make a positive difference through every interaction we have.
In this role you will:

  • Consistently deliver exceptional care to clients.
  • Support with operations and procedures.
  • Deliver patient monitoring and care, including everyday care: walking, toileting and feeding.
  • Ensure the completion of all pre and post operation activity.
  • Complete patient transfers to out of hours or enhanced care.
  • Dispense any medication required under the guidance of the Veterinary team.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, practice and operational standards.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Experience of working as part of a team and building positive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Able to provide exceptional care to clients and patients.
  • Client care skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Able to prioritise a range of tasks and own workload.
  • Flexible and willing to learn.
  • An understanding of the purpose and importance of regulation and compliance.
