Lead Software Engineer Watford, Hertfordshire Medivet Support Centre Full Time, Permanent

The Opportunity

At Medivet we are looking for someone who can guide and motivate an existing team of Software Engineers to deliver technical solutions based on business needs and grow into taking a wider level of responsibility for continuous improvement across engineering.


This is a hybrid role that requires a blend of technical and non-technical activities, strong software engineering knowledge and experience, coupled with strong cloud technology experience.


We need someone who is comfortable at taking on new challenges, is a great problem solver, and actively builds trust with their colleagues across Engineering and the wider community.

Role Accountabilities

  • Leading and mentoring a team of software engineers to help them achieve their individual and collective goals.
  • Providing technical direction and making decisions to ensure that the software is reliable, maintainable, and meets business needs.
  • Serving as the main point of contact between the engineering team and other teams such as product and delivery.
  • Identifying and mitigating risks that could potentially affect project timelines and/or quality.
  • Participating in the hiring process and helping new team members integrate into Engineering.
  • Deliver technical solutions to meet business needs.
  • Planning for future engineering capacity, in conjunction with the head of software engineering, based on delivery plans.
  • Key Decisions on technology stack and tools made in conjunction with stakeholders.
  • Champion and report on continuous code quality improvements across engineering
  • Regular progress updates to stakeholders
  • Implement risk mitigation plans.
  • Regularly delivers high quality and functionally correct technical solutions first time

Your Skills and Experience

  • Strong modern engineering skills and experience using Microsoft technologies (C# .NET Azure)
  • Demonstrable experience with Azure DevOps pipelines
  • Great communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Puts the team’s success at the heart of how they work.
  • Demonstrable experience of working autonomously
