The role
We are looking for a caring professional with a motivated approach and good communication skills to augment our abilities.
CPD is supported and encouraged with a generous budget.
The ability to work within a team, to learn, and most importantly to care would be necessary characteristics.
This a full-time position with 1 weekend in 4 worked at our local main centre in Dorchester.

Key accountabilities

Clinical Nursing: Provide high standard clinical care to all animals, including pre- and post-operative care, anesthesia monitoring, and wound management.

Client Communication: Offer advice and support to pet owners regarding the health and well-being of their animals; convey relevant information about treatments, aftercare, or procedures.

Medical Record Keeping: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient details, treatments, and observations in the clinic’s software system.

Medication Administration: Administer medications as prescribed by the veterinarian and provide guidance to pet owners regarding medication administration and potential side effects.

Laboratory Work: Conduct diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, urinalysis, and parasitic screenings. Understand and operate laboratory equipment.

Radiography: Prepare animals and the radiography room for x-rays, ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Surgical Assistance: Sterilize surgical instruments and assist veterinarians during surgeries by providing necessary tools and ensuring the patient’s well-being.

Education and Training: Participate in ongoing professional development and possibly mentor trainee veterinary nurses, ensuring the clinic’s nursing standards remain high.

Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all clinical equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained. Report any malfunctions immediately.

In-Patient Care: Monitor hospitalized animals, ensuring they receive proper care, including feeding, cleaning, and administering medications.

Health and Safety: Adhere to all clinic protocols and standards to ensure a safe environment for both staff and animals.

Emergency Care: Participate in after-hours, weekend, or holiday shifts as required and provide emergency nursing care when necessary.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with veterinarians, reception staff, and other team members to ensure smooth clinic operations and the highest level of care.

Stock Management: Monitor, reorder, and manage stock levels of medications, foods, and other clinic supplies.

Professional Conduct: Uphold the professional and ethical standards as set out by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
Skills and experience
You must be a Veterinary Nurse and registered with the RCVS.
